EC GUITAR AUCTION:

Eric Clapton's "Crossroads Guitar Auction" run by Christie's in New York was a 100% sell out raising $7,438,624, easily eclipsing the $5 million result achieved for the first EC guitar sale organized by Christie's in 1999. The top lot was 'Blackie,' the famous black Strat that served as EC's sole stage and studio guitar from 1970 till 1985. 'Blackie' was sold for $959,500, becoming the most expensive guitar ever to have been sold at auction. Mark donated his Tobacco Sunburst Schecter Strat to the auction, it sold at just over $50,000 (approx £27,500). Proceeds of the sale will benefit the Crossroads Centre in Antigua, an addiction treatment centre established by EC in 1998. (updated, 26/06/04)
